The King’s Academy College Counseling Office Earns Graduates $8M In Scholarships

One of the advantages of The King’s Academy is the individual attention that its College Counseling Office provides.  Led by Mrs. Heather Najmabadi, the Office offered the following assistance to TKA students and families during the past year

• Staff visits to nearly 30 colleges and universities, offering the opportunity to share valuable first hand experiences with TKA students, as well as the opportunity to present The King‘s Academy as a premier educational institution.

• Hosting of more than 80 different colleges on campus, allowing students access to gather information and ask questions directly to college representatives

• Taking TKA’s juniors on tours of 8 different schools

• More than 3,000 transcripts sent to nearly 200 colleges and universities

• Student assistance with their college searches, college applications, essay reviews, resumes, college interviews, and scholarship applications

• A comprehensive student handbook guiding students and parents through the entire college search and application process

• A college counseling page on TKA’s web site (www.tka.net) providing important information regarding the financial aid process as well as links to other helpful sites

Family Connection through Naviance, a comprehensive web-based college counseling service designed to assist students and parents with the exploration of college and career options

As a result of these efforts, the College Counseling Office’s scholarship results were impressive.  TKA’s graduates received total scholarship awards of $8,101,139.  Ninety-eight percent of students who applied were awarded scholarships (94 students applied). Eighty-three students earned a Florida Bright Futures Award.

Mrs. Najmabadi commented, “Our primary goal is to assist and guide our students and their families through the myriad of information and decisions concerning their college search. We are always looking to expand the tools we use to help provide students with the best possible support.”

On December 14, 2009, The King’s Academy College Counseling Office will hold a College Financial Aid Seminars for TKA families.  This Seminar is intended to provide a general overview of the financial aid process, including state and federal programs as well as private and university specific scholarships.  Additionally, representatives from Palm Beach Atlantic University will present an overview of the college application and financial aid processes.  For more information about this informational meeting, contact the College Counseling Office at 561-686-4244, extension 350.
