Elementary And Middle School Bands Making Moves For The King’s Academy

On February 5th -7th The King’s Academy Elementary Intermediate Band competed in an ensemble and solo competition.

Out of the 15-member Intermediate Band, 10 competed in this event. The band director, Gene George, stated that their goal was to strive for the two highest ratings which are “Excellent” and “Superior” with Superior being the highest. With that said, the following students are to be congratulated for their amazing talent and effort:

1. Kent Dunn: Alto Saxophone – Excellent rating
2. Jake Garrell: Alto Saxophone – Excellent rating
3. Austin Durand: Clarinet – Superior rating
4. Maggie DeMars: Trumpet – Superior rating
5. Noah Eberly: Clarinet – Superior rating
6. Sahar Halim: Alto Saxophone – Superior rating
7. Dylan Lowe: Trumpet – Superior rating
8. Justin Nesbeth: Clarinet – Superior rating
9. David Williams: Trombone – Superior rating
10. Peter Zwingert: Tuba – Superior rating

The King’s Academy middle school band program also had its solo and ensemble event last weekend.  Forty-six pieces of music including: solos, duets, trios, quartets and small ensembles were evaluated by the Florida Bandmaster’s Association over the course of 2 days at John I. Leonard High School.

Thirty-five of these 46 pieces received Superior (highest) ratings, 10 received Excellent ratings, and 1 received Good rating.  Nine of these entries earned the right to perform at the State Solo and Ensemble event March 29th – 31st at J.P. Taravella High School in Coral Springs, FL.
