The King’s Academy cheerleading squad placed first in the non-tumbling division at the 2010 Florida High School Athletic Association Competitive Cheerleading Championships. The competition was held Feb. 5-6 in Kissimmee.
Since 2007, King’s Academy has trained at Gym Like This! in West Palm Beach under the direction of head coach Jenn Allen and assistant coaches Tim and Christina Pike. In 2009, the squad was named state runner-up in the non-tumbling division.
This year, King’s Academy was one of 57 squads that competed in the semifinal round of the non-tumbling division. The Lions advanced to the finals along with 13 other teams and beat out strong competition to win the first-place trophy.
Other local teams competing in the non-tumbling division were Royal Palm Beach High School, Seminole Ridge High School and Palm Beach Central High School.
The Benjamin School (20th in the large varsity tumbling division) and William T. Dwyer High School (22nd in the medium varsity tumbling division) also performed well. Both squads train at Gym Like This!
