What better way to help students learn more about the career they intend to pursue than a job-shadowing day? Well, The King’s Academy of West Palm Beach, FL, did just that for its students in the junior class.
Last Wednesday, February 24, 2010, over 90 juniors of TKA participated in a day of job-shadowing. What exactly is a job-shadowing day? It is an exciting event in which Palm Beach County mobilized business volunteers to bring students into the workplace for a chance to see up close what individuals do in various careers. The students “shadowed” participating mentors at a variety of work-sites throughout Palm Beach County, ranging from a couple of hours to a full day.
The students that participated had interests in a variety of professions ranging from Business and Entrepreneurship, Medicine, Legal, Finance, Ministry, Sports Management and Recreation, Television and Film Production Technology, Architecture, Engineering, Education, Commercial Real Estate, and others participated in shadowing various professionals throughout the day to garner knowledge as to the typical duties that fall within each profession.
A special thank you to all hosts and to the Job Shadow coordinators, Susan Perry, Dr. JoNell Mahoney, Cathy Burk, Mindy Duke, Irelys Pattee, Melanie Fortnash, Sharon Johnson, and Bunny Crocetti for their vigorous effort surrounding this year’s Job Shadowing Day. If you would like to participate next year, call John Lopez at 561-686-4244 (ext. 316) or email him at john.lopez@tka.net.
