The King’s Academy’s Former Football Star Heath Evans Holds Successful 7-on-7 Event

Category : Uncategorized

By: Chad Simmons, Scout.com

Any time you get guys like James Wilder, Nick O’Leary, and Kelvin Benjamin on the same field, your event has to be a success, but there is much more to Heath Evans’ even than getting talent to show up.

The Heath Evans Foundation started to get going five years ago and it has been going strong full force for over three and a half years.

At The King’s Academy on Saturday, the Heath Evans Foundation put on an outstanding event on and off the field. There was high-fives outside, tears on the inside, and lives changed throughout the day.

The football field is where Heath Evans is known for making an impact, but he offers so much more than that.

“This is one of those events where you want to get a bunch of stuff done, but first and foremost, we want to offer professional counseling to help heal those who have been hurt,” said Evans. “We do this with the perspective that we want to touch young men. It is so easy for these young men this day and age to make bad decisions that we want to show them that they can make good decisions too. We want to witness to them, be there for them, and show them the way to go to grow up and be men of integrity.”

“We want to get the message of the foundation out to all of these athletes because some of them could have been sexually abused growing up. The Heath Evans Foundation wants all the hopes and healings of families and children that may have had to go through child and sexual abuse. My wife was a victim of this, so we know how it hits home, so we want to see if we can make a difference.”

“We also want to give the guys a day of athletic events, competition, and fun, but at the same time encourage them to be men of integrity. We want them to stand up for the right things, do the right things, make the right decisions, and to reach their goals and dreams by doing it the right way.”

“Everything is free of charge at this event and we want to reach as many people as possible. We want to tell them about our foundation and teach them that they have to have a plan in place to be successful in life.”

The Heath Evans Foundation got going about five years ago and they have been running in full force for a little less than four years. Evans said, “We have been ministering to hurting hearts for about three and a half years now and we hope to keep doing this for a long time.”

Evans accomplished everything he was looking to accomplish on Saturday with an event that was second to none. He balanced football with compassionate words of wisdom as good as he could have hoped for and the event will only be better in 2011.

Evans did his part along with his Foundation partners and the teams, coaches, and players did theirs too.

Miramar is the reigning state champs and they took home the title on Saturday as well with a 20-19 win over Glades Central. The Raiders felled to convert the extra point with 36 seconds remaining in the game.

This event was not only for skill guys, but there was a Lineman’s Challenge as well for the second year. Jordan Burdi of Miramar won the 185-pound bench press with 29 reps. Patrick Miller of Dwyer won the 30-yard Tire Flip in 23.47 seconds and Jovence Charite of Park Vista sped through the lineman obstacle course in 34.81 seconds. Belen Jesuit won the five-man sled push. Tampa Plant won the team title while Park Vista finished second and King’s Academy placed third.

Future Clewiston Students Of The King’s Academy Visit Their Fellow Lions In West Palm Beach

Category : Uncategorized

While The King’s Academy will not open in Clewiston until August 2010, thirty Clewiston Christian School students recently received the opportunity for an early look at what they might expect when the new middle and high school opens its doors.  On February 18th, TKA’s West Palm Beach campus hosted all sixth through eighth graders from CCS.  The students and their teachers rode a King’s bus from Clewiston to West Palm Beach where they were greeted by TKA’s student ambassadors, a student-led service group.  The ambassadors accompanied Clewiston Christian students to a variety of middle and high school classes including science, English, math, dance, art, music, and physical education.

After eating lunch in TKA’s cafeteria the students attended an ice cream social. The King’s Academy’s prefect council, a senior leadership group, organized this little event in honor of the visiting students from Clewiston. The council members discussed student life, spiritual life, academics, athletics, and fine arts opportunities at The King’s Academy.  Several prefects also told the Clewiston group about what they liked best about attending King’s.  One Clewiston student asked, “Is there anything that you do not have here?”  CCS students also had the opportunity to visit TKA’s library and some even took in a Lady Lions softball game.

The King’s Academy—Clewiston Campus is currently accepting applications for 7th, 8th, and 9th grades for the 2010 – 2011 school year.  For more information about enrolling at The King’s Academy at Clewiston Christian School, please contact Alinda Faircloth, Director of Admissions at (561) 686-4244, extension 335.
