On August 13th, The King’s Academy dedicated a new Golf Development Complex on its West Palm Beach campus.  Consisting of twelve driving cages, three pitching greens, and a chipping area, the complex was initially the vision of Boys Varsity Head Coach Bruce Stutzman.  At the dedication, he commented, “When this campus was built six years ago, I told (former TKA President) Nelson Loveland that something was missing, but I glad to say that it’s here today.”

Stutzman was joined at the ceremony by Girls Varsity Head Coach Beth Carpenter and King’s administrators including President Jeff Loveland, Secondary Principal Sonya Jones, and Athletic Director Adam Winters.  Also present were Boys Junior Varsity Coach Kevin Shaw, King’s boys and girls golf teams, as well as many supporters of the TKA golf program.  Founding donors to the complex, including John and Sherry Snider and Alan L. Gerwig & Associates, were recognized for their generosity and all in attendance jointly dedicated the facility with a prayer, “To the Lord, we dedicate this complex for the good of the game, our players and for the honor of our God.  Amen.”  Will Thornton ’09 ended the proceedings with a ceremonial first shot.  Thornton, who will attend Mississippi State University’s professional golf management program in the fall, was King’s 2009 boys golf captain.

2010 Football Preview: The King’s Academy Lions

Category : palm beach private school, private schools palm beach, the king's academy

Palm Beach County High School FootballThis off-season was a very rewarding one for The King’s Academy football program. In the summer the Lions traveled to UCF for a full-contact team camp and competed in “seven-on-seven” scrimmages against six other football programs, including Seminole ridge and Ft. Pierce Central. The Lions impressed the UCF coaches with their aggressive play as they went toe to toe with the camps best. The team also boasted a very impressive roster of attendance at their daily weight training sessions.

The Lions began practice with “two-a-days” on Monday August 9th. The team has 14 returning starters on both sides of the ball with a good number of them being underclassmen. Also joining the coaching staff are Justin Garrett as the quarterbacks coach and Brannan Thomas as the wide receivers and defensive backs coach. New impact players on the roster to watch are quarterback Shane Bussey, tight end Kevin Stypulkowski, offensive tackle Tyler Chaisson and defensive back Zack Lowe. The returning players expected to lead the team include: tailback Brian Grove, offensive lineman Eric Ross, flanker Chris Machiela, linebacker Gage Batten and defensive end Alain Deltor.

The goals for this years’ football team are simple, as Coach Dobson put it “We want to be very competitive this year and have a chance to win every game.” Senior defensive end and captain Alain Deltor said “We have a real close team this year and we are working hard to win districts and make a great playoff run with State as our goal.” Senior captain and all-state offensive lineman Eric Ross commented, “Our goal is to defeat all the opponents in the district and make a run to State.”

Look for good things from the 2010 Lions football team as a result of the preparation and training in the offseason. The Lions open up the season with the Kickoff Classic facing Miami Gulliver Prep on Friday August 27th at Kahlert Field at 7 p.m.  Come on out and see these Lions in action!

Three Students of The King’s Academy Honored by United States Congress

Category : palm beach private school, private schools palm beach, the king's academy

This summer, the United States Congress honored 252 young people for excellence in voluntary public service, personal development, physical fitness, and expedition/exploration.  The King’s Academy’s Nicole Provenzano, Dustin Provenzano, and Dylan Provenzano were among the winners of the prestigious Congressional Award Gold Medal.

The Provenzanos followed unique paths to the award.  Nicole, a 2009 graduate of The King’s Academy, traveled with the People to People program in Japan and volunteered as a summer counselor at a camp for young children.  Dustin, a senior at The King’s Academy, volunteered to feed the needy in Palm Beach County and planned and executed a survival trip in the Blue Ridge Mountains.  Dylan, a senior at The King’s Academy, volunteered hundreds of hours as a summer camp counselor and at local feeding programs and developed the necessary rafting skills to navigate Class IV rapids.  Of the award, he said, “By working through the levels of the Congressional Award program, I have learned how to set goals and develop the discipline required following through with them, while helping others in the process.”

In 1979, the United States Congress established into law the Congressional Award to honor, encourage and inspire America’s youth.  In the ensuing years, Congress has recognized thousands of outstanding young Americans who have earned and deserve recognition.  Through the Congressional Award, Congress challenges young people to challenge themselves.  Youth, ages 14 to 23, may participate in the Congressional Award by setting and achieving individually challenging goals in four program areas:  Voluntary Public Service, Personal Development, Physical Fitness, and Expedition/Exploration.  The only other medal awarded by the United States Congress in the Medal of Honor.
