The King’s Academy’s Kahlert Stadium was abuzz Tuesday February 28th as the
inaugural season of lacrosse kicked off against John I Leonard High School. The team
raced out to an early 8-2 lead midway through the second quarter behind a solid
defensive effort and timely goals being scored on the offensive end. The team held on
in the second half to secure the programs first victory 13-7 behind 5 goals from junior
Austin Masi.
The attack group is led by Andrew and Jonathan Neal. As an eighth grader,
Jonathan brings a wealth of lacrosse skills, knowledge and speed. His older brother
Andrew will provide the size, muscle and intimidation. Junior Greg White and Senior
Josh Shorey will round out the attack group. Both have demonstrated quickness, speed
and an eagerness to learn and improve. Sophomore Andrew Berg and eighth grader
Chris Berg will also be competing for playing time.
Offensively, the TKA midfield group is led by Junior Austin Masi, Junior Shaefer
Slavic and Freshmen Seth Gatchell. Defensively, the midfield group will look to Junior
Pedro Ojeda, Sophomore Garrett Larson and Senior Sean Meyer. Junior Beau
Hoskins, Freshmen AJ Biehl and Junior Joey Agnello will also compete for playing
time.
Defensively, the team is led by seniors Steven Kranz, and Brandon Miles. Both
are standout athletes from the football program and transitioned easily to the physical
demands of lacrosse. Juniors Daniel Delgado, Matthew Criser, Junior Jake McCarty,
Senior Austin Titus and Junior Cody Weber will round out the low defenders in 2012.
Junior Hunter Reed and Freshmen Dominick DeMarsico will be sharing the Long Stick
Midfield Spot.
The starting Goalie spot has been earned by Senior Talbot Keating. Talbot has
worked hard in the off season to be able to provide a consistent and reliable player
between the pipes. Junior Remy Colter has also shown impressive strides as a goalie
and will look to see playing time during the 2012 campaign.
New head coach Brett VanAlstyne is excited about the potential of this young
program and is poised to take the Lions to the next level competing for championships.
Come out and support the team as they take on the Park Vista Cobras Thursday March
1st at TKA’s Kahlert Stadium at 6:30 p.m.
