Last weekend, TKA entered three choirs in the Florida Vocal Association’s Music Performance Assessments: His People, The King’s Men and the Ladies of His People. All three choirs performed beautifully and received rave reviews. All judges commented that TKA was one of the top schools they heard all weekend. Choir director Mrs. Sonia Santiago stated, “Our students shine wherever we go and I feel honored to be associated with these high caliber young people.” The ratings received by the choirs reflected their excellence (overall receiving 12 ratings: 10 Superiors and 2 Excellents):

His People received straight Superiors: a perfect score with all A’s resulting in three possible Superior ratings for their onstage performance and a Superior in Sight-Singing.

Ladies of His People received straight Superiors: a perfect score with all A’s resulting in three possible Superior ratings for their onstage performance and a Superior in Sight-Singing.

The King’s Men received 2 Superiors & 2 Excellents: a nearly perfect score with A’s & high B’s for their onstage performance and a Superior in Sight-Singing.

Of particular note, all three choirs received a perfect Superior rating for Sight-Singing. This is a wonderful accomplishment as this is the most challenging part of the competition. This shows that we not only have talented singers but are educating musicians as well. TKA is proud of our singers and their efforts in producing exceptional music as a team.

Recently, four TKA seniors traveled to Palm Beach Atlantic University with Business teacher, Mrs. Anne Spell, to compete in the PBA Business Challenge. The students had previously competed at the school level by “pitching their business plans” to a panel of TKA business experts. Two entrepreneurial companies were then selected to move on to Palm Beach Atlantic’s Business Challenge. The two groups that moved on included:

Business Name: Single Digits
Students: Madison Collins, Danielle Hurme, Destiny Gombos

Business Name: Common Scents
Student: Cecilia Breland

Both groups presented their business plans to mock investors in the PBAU competition against more than 30 teams from other schools. Our TKA students were so well prepared that both groups were selected as one of the six finalists and Cecilia Breland with her “Common Scents” brand captured Second Place overall and a cash prize! Cecilia is now creating her own business from this project and is designing her own solid perfumes and containers. TKA is thrilled at the dedication and preparation that these Business students and their teacher put into this competition and for their success in the first year of entering the competition.

The King’s Academy Preschool Takes a Safari in Greenacres

Loins, tigers and bears oh my! That is just what the little 2’s from the Greeenacres campus were cheering as they began their odyssey through their African Savannah “playground”! Sadly, mother nature didn’t allow the expedition to take place outside, but that didn’t stop these busy little explorers, they were just as excited to search for their beloved animals in the church sanctuary. With safari hats, African attire and homemade cardboard tube binoculars in hand they searched anxiously to find hidden elephants, giraffes, zebras, hippos, cheetahs and monkeys. Each time another animal was found exited little screeches could be heard throughout the “jungle”.

The children’s safari wraps up their lesson on Into The Wild in which they studied wild animals and zoo life. Their bible teaching was on Noah’s Ark and their vocabulary focused on words that supported their activities throughout the month.

Join us soon to see what these little guys are up to next!

The King’s Academy’s Kahlert Stadium was abuzz Tuesday February 28th as the
inaugural season of lacrosse kicked off against John I Leonard High School. The team
raced out to an early 8-2 lead midway through the second quarter behind a solid
defensive effort and timely goals being scored on the offensive end. The team held on
in the second half to secure the programs first victory 13-7 behind 5 goals from junior

Cameron SharrockEarlier this month, TKA senior Cameron Sharrock competed in Junior Achievement’s 10th Annual Watch A Rising Star competition at the Kravis Center and was awarded Second Place. Cameron was one of five finalists in the competition, chosen from applicants from every high school in Palm Beach and Martin Counties. The students were showcased in a fabulous concert as they competed for $5,000 in scholarship money. Cameron did a remarkable job, moving many guests to tears with his beautiful renditions of Nessun Dorma from the Pucinni opera Turandot and Bring Him Home from the musical Les Miserables. This is the sixth consecutive year TKA has had a winner finishing in either 1st or 2nd place in this competition. As a finalist, Cameron participated in various showcases throughout the area leading up to the February 12th event, and he always represented The King’s Academy with excellence. TKA’s Choral Director, Mr. David Snyder stated, “Cameron is an amazing talent with great passion for his art and a commitment to excellence. In spite of his busy schedule preparing to play the principal role of Jean Valjean in our upcoming production of Les Miserables and the busy performance schedule of TKA’s honor choir, His People, Cameron dedicated many hours to performances in support of the Watch a Rising Star program. He has handled it all with great maturity and professionalism.” TKA is proud of Cameron and his successes using his God given talents.
